What is MAIG?

Malaysian Astronomy Interest Group or MAIG, is a mailing-list dedicated to Amateur Astronomy in Malaysia and Tropical Countries all around the globe. In Malaysia, it is the first ever mailing-list dedicated to Astronomy . It is hope that by providing such mailing-list facilities, Amateur Astronomers all over Malaysia and also other Tropical countries all around the globe, will be able to share resources, knowledge and discuss things concerning Astronomy and its activities in the tropical countries.

We have seen various other mailing-list existed in the internet, and most of them are from temperate countries, where the sky conditions are slightly different from countries situated near the equator. People living here ( tropical countries ) have the best opportunity to see almost the whole sky, and I hope by providing MAIG, we can all share this unique experience.

Anyone is eligible to join this mailing-list and it is not limited to only Astronomy-literate people. If you are still new to Astronomy, I believe you can learn a lot of things by reading through the posting in MAIG. And you can even ask question since there'll bound to be someone in MAIG who would love to help you out.

Rules and Nettiquette in MAIG

As with other mailing-list, MAIG too has some basic rules and etiques which all members should find no problem to follow. There are as follows :-

  1. Make sure to include the word '[MAIG]' in all messages send to MAIG, at the subject field. This will help MAIGers distinguish emails from MAIG with the rest.
  2. Try to avoid bringing up controversial and sensitive issues, as this group is dedicated to amateur astronomy activity only.
  3. The survival of this group is in our hands. If any of us a us have any thing to ask/ discuss/share /suggestions, please share with the rest of us. Besides, that's what MAIG is for!
  4. If anyone would like to share any files or images, they could provide the URLs for the original site where the image/files is located. This will give the rest of the members the freedom to choose if they really want to download the images/files.
  5. Any attachments files that you have, do not send it to MAIG. Only send it PERSONALLY to the interested members when REQUESTED.
  6. When replying to MAIG, please manually delete the senders email and leave only [email protected].co in the To: field. This will help to minimized duplicate posting and of course save bandwidth.
  7. If possible try deleting unecesarry quoting from past messages, and leave only the part you want to reply/answer to. Save bandwidth!.

As far as MAIG is concerned, the rules are pretty basic and straightforward. Please try your best to follow it as it will definitely ensure the successfulness of MAIG.
